It takes just a few seconds to load up a camera feed after accessing the site, and even with the page open for a while, feeds don’t break. To open a larger view for a specific camera, select the camera's name or live feed. The screen will show the selected camera's feed and a list of all your cameras. The web versions of the Home and Nest apps are optimized to take advantage of your computer's bigger screen and mouse. For example, you can view the live streams of multiple Nest cameras at once, or keep the live stream playing in the background while you work on other things. All websites links must include "https" or "http" to work.

The only issues I’ve noticed so far have been with legacy cameras, which occasionally seem to fail to load on the “grid” view such as my backyard Nest Cam Outdoor below. It’s taken well over a year, but Google’s new Nest cameras finally have a Google Home web app. The experience is still rolling out, but here’s a quick look at what you can expect. Some websites offer built-in cast buttons that stream media to your Google Home or Google Home Mini smart speakers.

As of October 2022, the Google Home web app has a single purpose – a live view of your Nest cameras. You can access the web app at home.google.com/u/0/home, but the URL only works if the experience has been rolled out to your account. If you have more than one Nest camera, you can choose how to view your cameras on your browser screen.
But what’s really great is that Google has taken a page from powerful open-source home automation projects like Home Assistant and included a script editor in Google Home. Before we get anybody too excited too early in the day, it’ll be a few weeks before all the features we’re about to describe go live. Finally, with a new feature called “Fast Pair for Matter,” Google has rolled out enhanced support for the upcoming Matter smart home standard to Android devices. If it’s a smart device powered by Google Assistant and connected to your home network, you can control it through the Google Home app. Other useful additions might be thermostat controls as well as controls for other smart home devices. I’d also love to see Google turn this into a Progressive Web App so it can deliver some added functionality such as notifications. Live streaming a camera for an extended period may prevent it from recording video if your network doesn’t have enough bandwidth. If you have a battery powered camera, prolonged streaming will use more battery life.
With Google's end-to-end tools for building Matter devices and apps, your devices work with Google Home, and any Matter-enabled apps and ecosystems. First, you’d be able to get to it more easily from devices that don’t offer Google apps. More accessibility means more users, and with the increased focus on dropping the price and lowering the bar of entry for the hardware, the software deserves the same approach, don’t you think? Next, being able to sign in securely from a borrowed device and check on your home security would be useful to many. Available exclusively for iOS and Android devices, you won’t find a dedicated desktop app for running your Google smart home on your Mac or PC.
